It typically affects people who live in areas where there is more of winter, or less light, and shorter summers. During the winter time, the worst thing you can do is to do nothing. You will become extremely bored pretty soon, and then sink deeper and deeper into depression if you do not have any particular activity to keep you engaged.
Being inactive can be the worst kind of de-motivating factor, prohibiting you from doing any exercise or work out. That only means that you will soon be pulled in to a negative cycle of inactivity, de-motivation and more inactivity, ending in worsening of your winter blues.
It has been proven that exercise helps to rejuvenate and invigorate the body. In fact research studies reveal that during and after working out; hormones are released in your body that is linked to the feeling of pleasure. So remember to stay active, you will be a lot happier, and healthier from it too!
Socialize
This is an obvious natural way to fight winter blues. Get out there and socialize as much as possible! Being around people makes us feel good, and especially around close friends and family that love us.
If you are in a situation where you cannot physically go out and be social, then socialize on the internet. Chat rooms, forums or any kind of human interaction can help you feel better. Engaging in any type of social life, whether it be going out with friends, or talking to friends on the phone, can make you feel much better when dealing with the winter blues!
Eat Healthy
Many people either turn to eating as a comforting escape from winter blues, or they stop eating altogether. Both of these are erroneous idea, as it is a known fact that what you eat can affect your mood.
People eating foods high in fat, sugar, and processed content not only feel sluggish, but also depressed and unmotivated. There may be an initial feeling of exhilaration and a feeling of ‘high, as soon as you eat these high sugary and junk foods. But do not fall into this trap, because the spectacular ‘high’ is soon followed by a devastating ‘low’.
So use the opportunity to nourish yourself with some healthy foods. Vegetables and seasonal fruits are real mood and immunity boosters. And they can taste wonderful too, and replenish your body with all the essential vitamins and nutrients.
